Combat Control Operator Fundamentals
Course Description:
The instructional design for this course is Group-paced. This course is a prerequisite for attendance of the Combat Control Operator Tower course. Training includes aviation-related weather, air traffic control principles and procedures, control tower environment, control tower operational requirements, and radar approach control operational requirements.
Admin Instructions:
TDY students must hand-carry a completed SF 88 and their medical records to the Keesler Flight Medicine Office. The Keesler Flight Medicine Office will determine the status of the student's ATC physical. US Air Force physical standards do not apply to international students. International students will not perform ATC duties unmonitored during US Air Force training.
Prerequisites:
ECL 80 SR. All enlisted Combat Control students must attend the Combat Control Orientation course at Lackland AFB TX.

This course is not taken alone but in conjunction with the listed courses.
Physical Ability and Stamina Test (PAST): Combat Control students will be administered the PAST as performance appraisals of their PT abilities. The PAST performance appraisals are spread out over Combat Control Operator Fundamentals course and its follow-on course, Combat Control Operator Tower. The PAST requirements are as follows:
ENTRY PAST: push-ups (42) sit-ups (50) chin/pull-ups (6) run 1.5 miles in 11 minutes 30 seconds swim 500 meters in 15 minutes
30 DAY PAST: push-ups (46) sit-ups (55) chin/pull-ups (7) run 3 miles in 25 minutes swim 1500 meters with fins in 36 minutes
60 DAY PAST: push-ups (51) sit-ups (61) chin/pull-ups (8) run 3 miles in 24 minutes swim 1500 meters with fins in 35 minutes
COURSE EXIT PAST: push-ups (56) sit-ups (67) chin/pull-ups (9) run 3 miles in 23 minutes 30 seconds swim 1500 meters with fins in 34 minutes rucksack march 3 miles in 45 minutes
Special Requirements:
Before a student is approved for training, a completed SF 88 must be certified and returned by the appropriate MAJCOM SGPA to confirm the individual is medically qualified for Flying Class III duties.
