Air Force Combat Dive Course (AFCDC)
Over the past few yrs and up through 2004, AETC has requested additional Army CDQC seats for PJ/CCT pipeline students. Pipeline students would sometimes wait 6 months or more post-INDOC to attend dive school. In 2004 SECAF directed a site assessment of Key West and NSA-PC. NSA-PC proved to be a more beneficial location for the 32-day course. AFCDC will run 6 times/yr, teaching 40 students/class = 240 students/yr. This will result in an increase of 80-100 student graduates per year compared to CDQC. The USAF officially withdrew from CDQC in Key West in Sep 05.
In the near future, our facilities at AFCDC inside NDSTC will provide Dive Sup and DMT training for the teams.
Course Description:
The AFCDC is 32 days in length. The course is divided into four blocks of instruction: (1) Diving Theory, (2) Infiltration/Exfiltration Methods, (3) Open Circuit Diving Operations, and (4) Closed Circuit Diving Operations. The primary focus of AFCDC is to develop Pararescuemen/Combat Rescue Officers and Combat Controller/Special Tactics Officers into competent, capable, and safe combat divers/swimmers. The course design provides Commander’s with divers/swimmers capable of meeting worldwide Personnel Recovery and Special Operations waterborne mission taskings. AFCDC provides diver training through classroom instruction, extensive physical training, surface and sub-surface water confidence pool exercises, pool familiarization dives, day/night tactical open water surface/sub-surface infiltration swims, open/closed circuit diving procedures, underwater search and recovery procedures, and the training culminates with a waterborne field training exercise (WFTX).
Administrative Instructions:
All students must arrive with their official medical records with SF 88 or 2808 current w/in 1 year and Exhibit 8 current w/in one month of reporting.
Note: Study your dive physics, dive physiology and anatomy and physiology prior to arrival. Your sole purpose for reporting here is to become a combatant diver. Fail this course, drink under age, or have any incident in town and you will jeopardize your chances for a rewarding career.
